Branding, Packaging Design

Elegant, Understated, Soft, Beautiful

Anna Wu is a San-Francisco-based wedding and documentary photographer. In 2013, she published a book of gorgeous ballerina photographs called Pointe of View (a copy of which still sits next to our wedding album on the coffee table). After completing a small packaging project for her, I asked—casually—if she had given any thought to rebranding. I truly admired her work, but I knew her branding could be stronger and better reflect her style. Thankfully, she gave me a chance and we started the re-branding process in 2014.

We began by turning Anna’s original typographic mark into something more elegant and easier to read. We then created a watercolor pattern to reveal a soft, artistic sensibility that would balance out the structured, warm gray typeface of her logo.

The packaging, of course, was one of the highlights of this project. After searching high and low for a custom box maker, we commissioned a wood print box (wrapped in delicate silk ribbon) to serve as a thoughtful keepsake and remind couples that Anna’s work is a gift.

In the end, we produced a quiet yet pretty identity that elevates her beautiful work.
