a state-sign-inspired color palette

As of today, we're packing up the office and heading WEST for the remainder of the summer. Andrew will be finishing up work in Houston, Kelly will be pursuing some personal projects in Austin, and Nani and I will be soaking in the sun and sea—while designing—in San Diego. Exciting projects await, and I can't wait to share them!

A little over a year ago today, we passed this sign—rickety U-Haul trailer in tow—wondering what Austin would bring. As it turns out...good friends, new business, and endless creativity! I know Texans have some beef with Californians, but I think everyone here is too polite/nice/decent not to give you a warm welcome. And while I miss the mild weather and beautiful Pacific, I'll be returning to Austin with neither hesitation nor regret. :)

Please keep up with our new projects via Instagram, Facebook, or the blog. If you're interested in working with us, please note that we're booked up 'til September - but feel free to drop us a line in the meantime!

Happy Friday, and g'bye for now, Texas!

a shutter-inspired color palette

a shutter-inspired color palette // green, terracotta, gold // Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy [pinit]

If you've been to Tuscany, you're well aware of one of its architectural signatures :: green shutters. They're everywhere. Until today, I assumed this was simply a tradition in which Italians took pride, but according to Tuscan Traveler, it goes well beyond that.

...Under the code of the Belle Arti...All buildings inside the now mostly absent 16th century walls of the city are deemed to be historical. Shutters in Florence and Tuscany, as well as some other regions in Italy, can only be dark brown, black, dark gray or dark green. Any other color or lighter shade of one of the allowed hues is deemed out of compliance. A homeowner can expect a registered letter in the mail demanding change on threat of a substantial fine.

Fascinating! I have nothing but love and admiration for the artistic contributions of Italy, but the Belle Arti sounds like a national HOA. I wonder how Italians feel about this...

Anyway, here's your color inspiration for the week :: from "legal" dark green to "anarchist" faded mint, I offer The Shutters of Florence. Happy Weekend!

I'm just not sure if Italy is charming enough.

Whether it's a feral cat sitting in a doorway or a weathered sign on a patched-up, centuries-old building, this country is filled with a kind of beauty you simply can't find in the States.

I'll share more photos from our trip over the next few weeks, but we'll start things off with a color palette of faded-red-turned-coral, cement gray, and pistachio green. Happy Friday!

For me, the holidays mean two things :: family and FOOD. This Christmas, I got to participate in a few new traditions with Andrew's family, my favorite of which was making rum raisin ice cream on the porch. After the ice cream was sufficiently churned, I swiped the bucket and got out my phone. Wha?!! Lovely aqua bucket against a brick backdrop? MUST. TAKE. PHOTO.

a wedding-bouquet-inspired color palette

a wedding-bouquet-inspired color palette // deep brown, blue, mint, peach [pinit]

If you've seen our wedding photos, you're aware of three of my loves :: succulents, coral, and the beach. I've never met Devon Michelle, but from this submission you'd think she knew exactly how to get my attention. From peachy-pink coral to the teal-gray blue, I love the the contrast of colors and textures.

What amazes me about this photo is how it captures the temperature of the day. The setting is clearly seaside, but something about it feels cool and crisp...like walking on the beach early in the morning.

a garden-rose-inspired color palette

a garden-rose-inspired color palette // red, pink, mint, gray, white, polka dots [pinit]

One of my "work duties" every week is to find inspiration for Friday color palettes. Last Thursday, Andrew and I made a trip to Central Market, where a small bunch of bright, pinkish-red garden roses caught my eye. Upon returning home, my plan to take a few simple photos quickly turned into a 30-minute styling session with espresso cups and mini silverware. I love how the white and silver surroundings really make that beautiful red POP.

Of course, I couldn't publish a color palette of just red, pink, and white, so I added a light gray with reddish hues, a mint accent color, and polka dot pattern.

Happy Friday!
