a paintbrush-inspired color palette // red, papaya, blue, gray, black [pinit]

Pie tins are one of my favorite free craft supplies. They're perfect for keeping messes contained, whether you're mixing acrylics, resting a hot glue gun, or dipping items in liquid gilding. The best part is, when you run out, you have no choice but to EAT MORE PIE.

This week's color inspiration comes from the paint palette (and brush) I used to make the Chain Letter Project. If you check out last week's color palette, you'll notice how the retro red-and-blue becomes a little more "edgy" when combined with black.

Happy Friday!

Library-Themed Birthday Brunch Invitation by Akula Kreative // Photos by Caroline Tran

Here they are: the feminine (yet quirky) book-style invitations we made for my mom's foodie-meets-bookworm affair (i.e., library birthday brunch)!

To provide some background on the cover design, my brothers and I have a running list of what we call "Momisms." From mixing up words and making up her own, to saying things only she could get away with (like staring at my 33 year-old brother asking him, "Why aren't you doing something for me right now?!!")...we decided a few years ago to begin documenting her noteworthy utterances via iPhone Notes. Little did we know they'd come in handy when I needed a book title for her birthday invite!

The invitation was printed digitally on papaya cover and blush text stock, "bound" using a 1/4" hole punch and gold tinsel, then stuffed in an antique gold envelope. Simple bookmarks (long enough for cookbooks) made with cotton ribbon and custom wax seals provided a fun little gift for guests.

Stay tuned for photos of the library-themed décor! If you missed the Sneak Peek, see it here!

a Mom-inspired color palette

Mother's Day color palette // papaya, pink, gold, and bronze [pinit]

This week's color inspiration is based on MOMS. I was so busy last week planning a surprise party in honor of my own mom that I completely forgot to post...hopefully this special one makes up for it!

The theme of our party was "Momisms :: words or phrases (real or imaginary) a mom uses,"  and the color palette was comprised of papaya, pink, blush, antique gold, and bronze. Check back in the next couple of weeks for photos of our library-themed brunch!

Happy Friday & Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful moms we know!!
