a VW-bus-inspired color palette

Welcome to the fifth week of my color palette series featuring ARTISTS + MAKERS!

Today, it is my JOY and honor to share Camille Amber Ruppert’s wonderful watercolor work! I don’t remember how I came across her adorable VW bus painting, but something about the complementary coolness in the background grabbed my attention immediately.

TIRE-D GRAY #41423D / VINTAGE VW #72817C / COOL COAST #A7B5B6

MY FAVORITE BLUE #C8D6D7 / ROSY GRAY #E9DEDC

WHAT ARE THESE COLOR CODES? The “hex codes” above are provided as a courtesy for those customizing website colors or looking for general color inspiration. They are not based on paint or Pantone chips. Remember that ink on paper will never look the same as light on a screen. If you like a combination you see, we recommend saving the image and heading to your local hardware store to find paint chips that match. Digital colors will change depending on your phone/tablet/computer screen, so be sure to color match with real swatches. Also, I make up all the color names.

Isn’t it amazing how, when you see certain colors and images, you can start to hear (and even smell) that environment? Looking at her image above, I can hear the seagulls and the surf, smell the salty air, and even feel the cold, wet sand between my toes.

Camille’s work is still somewhat new to me, but what I love about it is its WARMTH. Like all I want to do is put on a sweater and drink tea while I watch her paint. Below is one of my favorite prints that she sells under her business name, Amber’s Artistry :: a sprig of cotton. Now, I’m only an amateur watercolor artist at best, but painting white on white seems rather difficult. And how she created that much texture out of something so simple is a mystery. Ahh, I just want to reach out and pull some fluff out!

Camille, thank you for sharing your image with me and I look forward to following your work!

Happy Friday!
