Fifty Fifty :: a Modern, Editorial Serif font

From its creators :: Fifty Fifty is an editorial serif font (regular and italic) with smooth curves and more than 100 ligatures. It’s gorgeous in all caps, but the lowercase letters can really hold their own.

This font has been fun to play around with, and I’m loving the mix of tall, narrow letters with wide, circular letters (C, G, O, Q)!

A few geeky notes ::

When using multiple lines of text (as seen below), the line height starts to look unbalanced when you have an extra long descender hitting an ascender on the line below. (See the downward stroke of g in ‘thoughtfully’ that dips below the baseline? I had to increase the line height so it wouldn’t run into the stem of the d in ‘crafted.’) As a result, the words look too close together (vertically) in some spots, and too far away in others.

For this reason, I recommend reserving Fifty Fifty for large headings and logos that occupy a single line. Using this font on a larger scale will allow people to take in all the delicate details, and you won’t have to worry about ascenders hitting descenders. ;) Plus - the character and creativity that come with the ligatures is perfect for elegant yet whimsical typographic logos.

Overall, this font is designed beautifully and I can’t get enough of all those connected crossbars! Two thumbs up.
